Ancient Culture of Kommos
Located just minutes from Kommos Beach and Matala, Kommos was the ancient port of Phaistos and one of the most important trading hubs of Minoan Crete. From here, the Minoans traded goods with Egypt, the Near East, and the wider Aegean world, leaving behind impressive remains such as storage buildings, workshops, and harbor facilities.
In later periods, particularly during the Hellenistic era, the site became a sacred place of worship, with altars and offerings showing its long-lasting religious significance.
Today, Kommos uniquely combines rich Minoan history with one of Crete’s most beautiful coastal landscapes, offering visitors a truly memorable experience.
